Job Description

Portmill Engineering is looking for a certified and experienced MOT Tester to join our specialist workshop.

You will carry out Class 4 MOT tests with precision, consistency, and full compliance with DVSA standards.

1. Basic Mechanical Skills (general)

• Basic mechanical repair capabilities (not required but considered an advantage).

2. Servicing-related skills

• Experience with routine servicing tasks would be an advantage.

3. Tyre & wheel operations

• Ability to carry out basic tyre fitting and balancing (optional but beneficial).

4. Diagnostic familiarity

• Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools is not required but considered an advantage.

5. General workshop support

• General workshop support experience would be a plus.

6. Vehicle inspections experience

• Experience performing pre-inspection checks is advantageous, but not essential.

7. Electrical basics

• Basic knowledge of automotive electrical systems is a bonus.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform Class 4 MOT tests in full compliance with DVSA regulations
• Conduct pre-MOT inspections and identify safety-critical defects
• Record test results accurately using DVSA MOT testing equipment
• Advise customers on repair requirements and safety issues
• Assist with general workshop work when MOT schedule allows
• Maintain DVSA testing standards and continue meeting quality control requirements

Job Requirements

Experience & Skills:

• Proven experience as a certified MOT Tester
• Strong understanding of DVSA testing guidelines and safety standards
• Ability to identify faults accurately and document findings clearly
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Strong communication skills with both customers and colleagues

Certificates & Essentials:

• Valid DVSA MOT Tester Licence
• Full UK Driving Licence
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Vehicle Maintenance
• High attention to detail and commitment to compliance
• Ability to maintain quality standards under DVSA oversight
